Counting Objects and writing the number and number name

  1. Students will work in small groups to:
    • Use counters to form groups representing specific numbers (e.g., 5 counters, 10 counters).
    • Match their groups to pre-labelled cards showing the numeral, the written name, and the number in dots.
  2. Tiered Activities:
    • Tier 1 (Support): Work with teacher-guided prompts and pre-arranged counters for grouping.
    • Tier 2 (Intermediate): Independently group counters and match them to number cards.
    • Tier 3 (Advanced): Create their own number groupings and represent them using drawings or symbols.
  1. Students will explain their groupings and how they matched them to the corresponding numeral or name.
  2. The teacher will guide discussions to clarify misunderstandings and reinforce key concepts.
  1. Students will participate in hands-on activities:
    • Use chart paper to draw a family tree where each member represents a number, illustrating different ways to show the same value (e.g., "Mom = 4 apples, 4 blocks, numeral 4").
    • Collaboratively build number representations using manipulatives.
  1. Students will complete live worksheet activities:
    • Match numerals to their names and corresponding groups of objects.
    • Fill in missing parts of a sequence or pattern.
